The Create Streets Foundation's Summer School 2025 is an intensive residential programme designed to immerse participants in the principles of urban design and architecture. Scheduled from Friday, 11th to Sunday, 20th July 2025, in the historic market town of Sherborne, Dorset, the course offers a hands-on introduction to creating beautiful, sustainable, and socially successful places. Run in partnership with ADAM Architecture, the programme is tailored for early or mid-career professionals, undergraduates, and school leavers interested in the built environment. The Summer School is structured into two modules: Urban Design (11th–15th July) and Architecture (15th–20th July). The Urban Design module includes lectures, case studies, and site visits focusing on core aspects of urban design, English vernacular design, and community engagement strategies. Participants will work in small groups to analyze sites, develop design principles, and present their masterplans. The Architecture module delves into vernacular architecture, contemporary design challenges, and building regulations. Students will design buildings or groups of buildings for selected sites, guided by experienced tutors .
A distinctive feature of the Architecture module is the Lime Mortar Craft Day on 16th July, conducted in collaboration with specialists Rose of Jericho. This hands-on session provides an overview of lime mortar applications, including demonstrations and practical experience in repairing local limestone walls. Participants attending only the Urban Design module have the option to include this craft day as an add-on .
The course accommodates up to 24 participants, offering a residential experience with accommodation at Sherborne School. All necessary materials are provided, and the setting allows for an immersive learning environment. Early bird discounts are available for applications paid before April 1st, 2025.
