Terms & Conditions

Terms & Conditions

Using ConserveConnect

These Terms & Conditions govern your use of ConserveConnect, the UK’s specialist network for historic buildings. They apply whether you visit the website, create an account, maintain a professional profile, purchase membership, submit a service request, publish content, leave a review, participate in a campaign or use another ConserveConnect service.

Please read these Terms carefully. By creating an account, purchasing a service, submitting content or otherwise using functions that require acceptance of these Terms, you agree to be bound by them.

Additional terms may apply to particular ConserveConnect services. Where relevant, these are identified below and form part of the terms governing that service.

ConserveConnect provides a network, platform and searchable directory through which people concerned with historic buildings can discover expertise, share appropriate information and connect around conservation projects. Unless expressly agreed otherwise, ConserveConnect is not the contractor, consultant or supplier carrying out work found through the platform.

1. About ConserveConnect

ConserveConnect is owned and operated by Conserve Connect Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 16479798.

References in these Terms to “ConserveConnect”, “we”, “us” or “our” mean Conserve Connect Ltd where appropriate.

2. The ConserveConnect Network

ConserveConnect brings together property owners, conservation professionals, craftspeople, suppliers, organisations, campaigns and others concerned with the repair, care and responsible stewardship of historic buildings and places.

The wider ConserveConnect network includes a searchable directory of professional profiles and listings together with service requests, project matching, reviews, organisations, events, publications, campaigns, educational material and other conservation-related services.

The availability and functionality of particular features may change as the network develops.

3. Consumers & Business Users

Some people use ConserveConnect personally, for example when seeking help with a period property. Others use the platform in connection with a trade, business, craft or profession.

Where you use ConserveConnect wholly or mainly outside your trade, business, craft or profession, references in these Terms to a consumer apply to you.

Nothing in these Terms removes or limits any statutory rights or protections that apply to you and cannot lawfully be excluded.

4. Accounts & Account Security

Where you create a ConserveConnect account, you agree to:

  • Provide information that is accurate to the best of your knowledge
  • Keep relevant account and professional information reasonably up to date
  • Keep your login credentials confidential
  • Take reasonable steps to prevent unauthorised access to your account
  • Notify ConserveConnect if you become aware of material unauthorised use of your account

You must not impersonate another person or create an account using information you are not entitled to use.

5. Professional Profiles & Listings

Professionals, craftspeople, suppliers and organisations may create or manage profiles and listings within the ConserveConnect network.

If you submit or claim a professional listing, you confirm that:

  • You are authorised to represent the business or organisation concerned
  • Material information supplied is accurate to the best of your knowledge
  • You will not knowingly make misleading claims about qualifications, professional memberships, experience, services or projects
  • You have the right to publish photographs, text, logos and other material included in the profile
  • Your activities remain reasonably consistent with the conservation and professional context in which the listing is presented

ConserveConnect may review listings for suitability, relevance, completeness and compliance with these Terms.

6. Membership Plans

ConserveConnect may offer free and paid membership plans. The current features, prices and available subscription periods are shown on our Plans & Pricing page and, where applicable, during purchase.

Your membership level may determine features such as the number of specialist categories available, service-request access, promotional eligibility, project matching, profile support and relative visibility within relevant areas of the platform.

We do not guarantee any particular number, value or quality of leads, enquiries, appointments, search-engine visits or resulting contracts through paid membership.

Where a membership plan makes a profile eligible for promotional features, eligibility does not guarantee that a particular profile will be selected for every available promotional opportunity.

7. Fees, Payment & Cancellation

Prices and applicable payment arrangements for paid services will be displayed before purchase. You agree to provide valid payment information where payment is required.

Where a plan or service is recurring or automatically renews, the applicable renewal arrangement will be identified before purchase or otherwise communicated to you as required.

If you purchase a service as a consumer and statutory cancellation rights apply, those rights are unaffected by these Terms. Where applicable, information about cancellation and the consequences of asking us to begin providing a service during a statutory cancellation period will be provided as required.

Any refund or cancellation entitlement will be determined by the applicable purchase terms and your statutory rights rather than by a blanket rule that all payments are non-refundable.

8. Vetting, Recognition & Badges

Listing review and ConserveConnect vetting are separate processes. Inclusion in the network does not automatically mean that a professional, supplier or organisation has received a ConserveConnect recognition badge.

Recognition badges are considered separately against our published criteria and cannot be purchased through membership. Basic, Standard and Premium profiles may all be considered for relevant recognition.

A recognition badge reflects ConserveConnect’s assessment of information reasonably available at the time of review. It is not a statutory or regulatory accreditation, warranty of future performance or guarantee that a provider will be suitable for every project.

9. Service Requests & Project Matching

ConserveConnect may enable property owners, clients and organisations to submit service requests describing projects or specialist help they require.

We may use project information, location, categories and professional specialisms to identify potentially relevant members of the network. Matching is intended to assist discovery and does not constitute a professional recommendation, appointment or guarantee of suitability.

Submitting a service request does not oblige the submitter to accept a quotation or appoint a provider, and receiving a lead does not guarantee that a professional will obtain the work.

Service requests are additionally governed by the Service Request Agreement.

10. Appointing Professionals & Suppliers

Unless expressly agreed otherwise in writing, any contract for professional advice, consultancy, building work, products, materials or other services is made directly between the client and the professional, contractor, supplier or organisation concerned.

Users should undertake checks appropriate to the nature, complexity and value of the proposed appointment. These may include:

  • Confirming experience and qualifications
  • Checking appropriate professional or public-liability insurance
  • Obtaining references or reviewing relevant previous work
  • Obtaining written quotations and agreeing an appropriate scope
  • Confirming contractual terms, timescales and responsibilities
  • Obtaining independent professional advice where appropriate

A ConserveConnect profile, review or recognition badge should be treated as useful information rather than a substitute for the checks appropriate to a particular appointment.

11. Reviews

Reviews must reflect a genuine experience and comply with the ConserveConnect Review Submission Agreement.

Fake reviews, fabricated experiences, review manipulation and reviews submitted, changed or removed in exchange for an improper incentive connected with the review are prohibited.

ConserveConnect may investigate, temporarily withhold or remove reviews where there is a reasonable concern about authenticity or compliance with our standards. Genuine negative reviews will not be removed merely because the listed business disagrees with the reviewer’s opinion.

Read the Review Submission Agreement →

12. Campaigns & Community Activity

Campaigns seeking publication through ConserveConnect may be required to accept the ConserveConnect Ethical Campaign Charter and meet the platform standards applying to campaign content.

Publication of a campaign means that ConserveConnect has considered it suitable for inclusion at the time of review. It does not constitute a guarantee of every factual statement, future action or representation made by campaign organisers.

13. Grant Support & Project Development

ConserveConnect may provide heritage funding guidance, project-readiness assessments, grant application support, project coordination assistance and related conservation project-development services.

Unless expressly agreed otherwise in a separate written engagement, ConserveConnect does not guarantee:

  • The success of a grant or funding application
  • The award or continued availability of funding
  • Eligibility for a particular funding programme
  • The outcome of a planning, regulatory, technical or professional assessment undertaken by another organisation

Information and project-support material provided by ConserveConnect is based on information available at the relevant time. Unless expressly stated otherwise, it should not be treated as legal, financial, planning, engineering, surveying or other regulated professional advice.

Where specialist professional advice is required, the user remains responsible for obtaining advice from an appropriately qualified professional.

14. ConserveConnect.News & Editorial Independence

ConserveConnect.com and ConserveConnect.News form related parts of the wider ConserveConnect ecosystem but perform different functions.

Membership, a professional listing, advertising, participation in a campaign or any other commercial relationship with ConserveConnect does not purchase editorial coverage, endorsement or influence over editorial decisions.

ConserveConnect.News determines its own editorial coverage, analysis and comment.

15. User Content

You retain ownership of copyright and other intellectual property rights you hold in material that you submit to ConserveConnect.

When you intentionally submit material for public display — such as professional profile content, photographs, reviews, events, publications, blogs, organisation information or campaign material — you grant ConserveConnect a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, reproduce, format and display that material to the extent reasonably necessary to operate, present and promote the relevant ConserveConnect service.

This does not give ConserveConnect ownership of your material. Where appropriate, the licence ends when the relevant public content is permanently removed, subject to reasonable technical backups, archived records and legal or administrative retention requirements.

Private project documentation, restricted service-request material and other information not intended for public display are handled separately in accordance with the applicable service arrangements and our Privacy Policy.

16. ConserveConnect Content & Intellectual Property

Unless otherwise indicated, the design, branding, software, original text, graphics and other material created by or for ConserveConnect are owned by Conserve Connect Ltd or used under appropriate licence.

You may view, print or download reasonable extracts for your personal or legitimate internal business use. You must not reproduce, scrape, republish, sell or commercially exploit substantial parts of ConserveConnect content without permission or another lawful basis.

Rights belonging to individual contributors, listed businesses and other third-party rights holders remain with those rights holders.

17. Acceptable Use

You may use ConserveConnect only for lawful purposes. You must not use the platform to:

  • Commit, encourage or facilitate unlawful or fraudulent activity
  • Knowingly publish materially false or misleading information
  • Impersonate another person or misrepresent a material affiliation
  • Upload material that unlawfully infringes copyright, trade marks, privacy, confidentiality or other rights
  • Publish threatening, abusive, discriminatory, hateful or unlawful content
  • Send spam or unauthorised bulk promotional material through the platform
  • Introduce viruses, malware, harmful code or other material intended to interfere with the operation of the platform
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to accounts, systems, servers or data
  • Interfere with, damage or materially disrupt the operation or security of ConserveConnect
  • Use automated extraction or scraping in a manner that breaches applicable law, intellectual property rights or these Terms

Contributions stating facts should be accurate to the best of the contributor’s knowledge, and expressions of opinion should be genuinely held.

18. Moderation & Content Removal

ConserveConnect may review content before or after publication and may restrict, edit for presentation, temporarily withhold or remove material where there is a reasonable basis to believe that it breaches these Terms, an applicable service agreement, our published standards or the law.

Where practical and appropriate, we may give the affected user an opportunity to clarify or correct a concern. Immediate action may nevertheless be taken where necessary for security, legal compliance, fraud prevention, protection of users or prevention of serious misuse.

The fact that content has been published does not prevent ConserveConnect from reviewing it later if new information or concerns arise.

19. Suspension & Termination

ConserveConnect may restrict, suspend or terminate an account, listing or access to a particular service where reasonably necessary, including where:

  • These Terms or an applicable service agreement have been materially breached
  • Information provided is materially false or misleading
  • Payment properly due for a paid service remains outstanding
  • An account presents a material security, fraud or abuse concern
  • Continued publication would materially conflict with ConserveConnect’s published platform standards
  • Suspension or removal is reasonably required by law or another legitimate operational requirement

Where appropriate and reasonably practicable, we will explain the reason for significant account action and provide an opportunity to address the issue, except where doing so would undermine security, legal compliance or another legitimate purpose.

20. Closing Your Account or Membership

You may stop using ConserveConnect at any time and may request closure of your account or removal of eligible profile information, subject to applicable payment, contractual, administrative, legal and record-retention requirements.

Cancellation of a paid membership and any associated refund will be handled in accordance with the applicable purchase arrangement and statutory rights.

21. Information & Professional Advice

Articles, listings, guides, discussions, campaign material, grant information and other general content published through ConserveConnect are provided primarily for information and discovery.

General platform content should not be treated as a substitute for professional advice appropriate to the particular building, project, legal position, planning matter, structural condition, financial decision or other circumstances concerned.

Users remain responsible for deciding when independent specialist advice is required.

22. Availability & Changes to the Platform

We aim to keep ConserveConnect available and functioning reliably but do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free access.

Access may occasionally be restricted or interrupted for maintenance, security, software updates, technical problems, circumstances beyond our reasonable control or development of the platform.

We may develop, replace or discontinue platform features where reasonably necessary. Where a material change affects an existing paid service, we will take reasonable steps to provide appropriate notice and honour any rights that apply.

23. Third-Party Websites & Services

ConserveConnect may contain links to websites, professional practices, suppliers, organisations, funding bodies, social platforms or other resources operated independently by third parties.

External links are provided for convenience, reference or connection. Unless expressly stated otherwise, ConserveConnect does not control independent third-party websites and is not responsible for their content, availability, privacy practices or contractual relationship with you.

24. Linking to ConserveConnect

You may link to publicly available ConserveConnect pages in a fair and lawful manner provided the link does not misleadingly imply sponsorship, approval or endorsement where none exists.

You must not frame, reproduce or present substantial parts of ConserveConnect in a manner that misrepresents the source or commercial relationship without our prior permission.

25. Security, Viruses & Unauthorised Access

You must not knowingly introduce malware, viruses, malicious code or other technologically harmful material to ConserveConnect or attempt to gain unauthorised access to the website, user accounts, servers, databases or related systems.

Suspected unlawful interference may be investigated and, where appropriate, reported to relevant authorities.

Users should maintain appropriate security on their own devices and systems when accessing online services.

26. Our Responsibility to Consumers

If you are a consumer, ConserveConnect is responsible for losses that are a foreseeable result of our breach of these Terms or failure to use reasonable care and skill where the law makes us responsible.

We are not responsible for losses caused solely by an independent professional, contractor, supplier, campaign organiser or other third party where ConserveConnect is not legally responsible for that person’s acts or omissions.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. Nothing in these Terms affects statutory consumer rights.

27. Our Responsibility to Business Users

If you use ConserveConnect for business or professional purposes, then, to the extent permitted by law and except where a separate written agreement expressly provides otherwise, ConserveConnect is not responsible for indirect or consequential loss arising from use of the general platform.

This includes, to the extent legally permissible, loss of profit, business, anticipated savings, business opportunity or goodwill where such loss arises indirectly from use of the general network, directory, matching or publication functions.

Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. Separate professional, project-support or paid-service engagements may contain additional liability provisions appropriate to that engagement.

28. Privacy & Personal Information

ConserveConnect processes personal information in accordance with its Privacy Policy.

Our Data Protection & Personal Information page provides additional practical information about accounts, listings, service requests, project information, individual rights and data-protection complaints.

Acceptance of these Terms does not constitute blanket consent to every form of personal-data processing. Where consent is required for a particular activity, it will be sought separately where appropriate.

29. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect changes in the ConserveConnect platform, services, business practices or applicable requirements.

Updated Terms will be published on this page. Material changes affecting an existing paid service will be communicated with reasonable notice where appropriate or required.

Changes apply from their stated effective date and do not remove rights that have already arisen under applicable law.

30. Governing Law & Jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.

If you are a consumer, nothing in this clause deprives you of mandatory legal protections available to you, and disputes may be brought before courts available to you under applicable law.

If you use ConserveConnect in the course of a business, trade, craft or profession, the courts of England and Wales will have exclusive jurisdiction over disputes arising in connection with these Terms, unless otherwise agreed in writing.
