Vetting

The Role of Vetting Profiles

Ensuring Integrity in Conservation

At ConserveConnect, we employ a rigorous, values-based vetting process to ensure that every listed entity represents not only technical excellence but also ethical practice in heritage conservation and restoration.

Each submission is individually assessed to verify qualifications, portfolio quality, and alignment with conservation-led, community-focused principles.
We look for those who repair, restore, and re-use historic buildings with respect — not those who profit from their erasure.

Our aim is to maintain a directory that clients, local authorities, and fellow professionals can trust as a mark of both craftsmanship and conscience.

To reflect this, listings that meet specific criteria are recognised with the following badges of verification, each representing a distinct level of professional and ethical standing within the ConserveConnect network.

  • Demonstrated record of professional work in heritage conservation, restoration, or related disciplines.

  • Evidence of relevant accreditation, membership, or certification (IHBC, RIBA, CIOB, SPAB, NVQ Heritage Skills, etc.).

  • Portfolio review by our verification team to confirm heritage-appropriate methods and outcomes.

Meaning:
Holders of this badge are trusted, qualified practitioners whose work aligns with recognised professional and conservation standards.

Craft & Heritage Excellence

Purpose: To celebrate traditional skill and technical mastery in the care of historic fabric.
Criteria:

  • Proven expertise in one or more traditional trades (stone, timber, plaster, metalwork, glazing, etc.).

  • Demonstrable adherence to conservation principles such as minimal intervention and reversibility.

  • Endorsement or recognition from heritage bodies, training institutions, or conservation projects.

This badge identifies craftspeople and specialists whose practice maintains and advances the living traditions of building repair.

Community Commitment

Purpose: To highlight organisations that strengthen local identity and public benefit through their work.
Criteria:

  • Direct engagement with community-led or not-for-profit heritage projects.

  • Evidence of collaboration with residents, local groups, or educational initiatives.

  • Contribution to place-based regeneration that preserves social and cultural fabric.

Full ConserveConnect Accreditation

Purpose: To signify comprehensive compliance with all professional, ethical, and community criteria.
Awarded To:
Entities that have achieved Verified Professional, Ethical Practice, Craft & Heritage Excellence, and Community Commitment badges concurrently.

Meaning:
This is ConserveConnect’s highest standard of recognition — a signal that the listed member represents the very best of conservation ethics, skill, and accountability.

Review & Renewal

All badges are subject to annual review. We may request updated project documentation, references, or declarations to ensure continued alignment with ConserveConnect’s values and ethical charter. Listings can be suspended or withdrawn at any time if credible evidence arises of misconduct or unethical practice.
