On Thursday, 5 June 2025, The Georgian Group's South West Chapter will host an exclusive members-only tour exploring three distinguished Georgian landmarks in Dorset: Crichel House, Blandford Forum, and Sherborne. This curated event offers a rare opportunity to delve into the architectural and historical significance of these sites, each exemplifying the elegance and craftsmanship of the Georgian era. The day commences at 10:00 AM with a guided visit to Crichel House, a Grade I listed estate renowned for its classical design and landscaped grounds. Originally constructed in 1742 and extensively remodeled in 1770, the house features interiors designed by James Wyatt and a picturesque lake added during the 18th-century enhancements. Victorian-era additions include a north wing, a new parish church, and an Italian garden designed by Harold Peto. Since 2013, under the ownership of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Chilton, Crichel House has undergone award-winning restorations, including renovations to the house and church roofs. Following the visit to Crichel House, participants will journey to Blandford Forum, a town celebrated for its Georgian architecture. Here, members will explore significant local sites that showcase the town's rich architectural heritage. The tour concludes in Sherborne, approximately a 40-minute drive from Blandford Forum, where attendees will visit the Abbey Monument, the Shell Grotto, and Sherborne House. Notably, Sherborne House received the 2024 Georgian Group award for Restoration of a Georgian Building in an urban setting. This event is priced at £50 and is exclusively available to Georgian Group members. Please note that transport and refreshments are not included. Interested members are encouraged to read the terms and conditions before booking. For booking inquiries or to be added to the waiting list, please contact members@georgiangroup.org.uk.
