This afternoon course introduces the techniques and resources used to research the history and development of historic buildings.
Aimed at homeowners, heritage professionals and anyone interested in understanding historic buildings, the session will explore the sources available for investigating a property's origins, development and significance. These include historic and contemporary maps, photographs, archives, Historic Environment Records, the National Heritage List for England and other documentary sources.
Particular attention will be given to the way historical research can reveal a building's heritage significance, inform appropriate alterations and support applications for listed building consent.
The course will be led by Tim Murphy IHBC MCIfA, Historic Environment Manager at Place Services. Tim has worked as an archaeologist and historic building consultant across the United Kingdom and Ireland and has extensive experience of researching and assessing historic buildings.
This course forms part of the Swaffham – A Historic Market Town project and has been subsidised to make heritage knowledge more accessible to property owners, residents and people interested in the historic environment.
Booking is required and places are limited.
