London Mosaic is a specialist London practice providing conservation, restoration, design and installation of Victorian and period geometric tiled floors and mosaics for historic houses, commercial interiors and heritage buildings.
Established in 2005, the company has more than 20 years' experience working with traditional ceramic floors and combines practical restoration expertise with an extensive knowledge of Victorian, Georgian and Edwardian geometric design.
Historic floor restoration
London Mosaic undertakes sensitive restoration of original Victorian geometric and mosaic floors. Services include cleaning and sealing, replacement of damaged or missing tiles, lifting and relaying loose areas, colour matching, localised repairs, extensions and alterations, and the salvage and reinstallation of historic material.
Existing floors can be surveyed and documented before work begins, allowing the extent and condition of original material to be assessed and an appropriate repair strategy developed.
Encaustic and geometric tile replacement
Where original tiles are damaged or missing, the company can match replacements using salvaged material, compatible modern tiles and specially reproduced encaustic designs. Heritage reproduction tiles are available in traditional imperial sizes and colours to assist accurate repairs to historic floors.
Micro-mosaic conservation
London Mosaic also restores detailed mosaic schemes made from small ceramic tesserae. Replacement sections can be assembled off site before installation, enabling complex patterns to be repaired accurately and efficiently.
Design and new period-style floors
Alongside conservation work, the practice designs and supplies bespoke geometric schemes inspired by Victorian, Edwardian and Georgian precedents. Its sheeted tile system allows complex layouts and borders to be assembled accurately before installation.
Commercial and heritage projects
London Mosaic manages and implements larger tiling projects in the London area and has extensive experience of domestic and commercial work. The company supplied more than 500 square metres of bespoke reproduction period flooring for the At Sloane hotel project in London, which received a Highly Commended award in The Tile Association's 2024 Best Commercial Project – Large category.
